About Me

This is the new and (hopefully) improved blog. I update, organized, arranged, and edited much of this blog. Here we go!

First of all, my greatest accomplishment in life is somehow convincing my beautiful wife to marry me. What was she thinking?!? I fear that one day she will wake up and realize what she did just over 6 years ago. So far I have been safe. A close 2nd to this accomplishment is the birth of my two boys. My family is my world.

The whole reason for starting this blog is to document my running progress and exploits. I have really learned to enjoy tolerate running. It has taken some time to get to this point, but it finally happened.

Here are ten things that you may not know about me:

1) I am an  English teacher in Las Vegas (please don't correct my grammar, syntax, diction, etc. Everyone makes mistakes...)
2) My family is always number 1 (Even though they are number 2 on this list. This list is not in any particular order, by the way.)
3) When I really need to relax, I'll go running, or read a good book, or watch TV.
4) I enjoy watching cheesy TV shows-19 Kids and Counting, Sister Wives, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo- on TLC with my wife.

Ok, I'm back. Sorry, I had to run to use the restroom. I saw my wife messing with my computer, so hopefully everything is still in order. Let's see, where did I leave off? Ahh yes, number 5.

5) I love Diet Dr. Pepper. Can there be a better drink? I submit to you, there cannot.

6) I desperately want to get into both trail running and ultra-marathons. I don't know why, but the prospect of running 50 to 100 miles fascinates me. Maybe it's because there are a handful of people (relatively speaking) who have done ultra-marathons, and I want that, too!

7) I am an English teacher, so, naturally, I enjoy reading. Lately my favorites have been about ultra-runners (shocking, I know). My favorites so far: Born to Run, Christopher McDougall; anything by Dean Karnazes; Eat & Run, Scott Jurek (ultra-runner extraordinaire. Seriously, he is probably the greatest ultra-runner of all time. Homeboy can run!); and Then the Vulture Eats You, an anthology of true ultra-running stories from various runners.

8) I have extreme and deathly fears a slight aversion to rattlesnakes. That is the main reason I am hesitant about running out in Las Vegas' desert trails: I HATE RATTLESNAKES and don't want to run into one. I get a bit squeamish just looking at them in zoos, heck, I get squeamish looking at pictures of rattlesnakes on the internet.

9) I absolutely am addicted to running shoes. Does anybody else find it difficult to part with even the oldest, ugliest, dirtiest running shoes? If it wasn't for my wife, I think I would have 100 pairs, literally.

10) I cannot imagine a life without candy and chocolate. Really, who wants to live life without a Hershey's Symphony bar, or a delectable Caramello every once and a while? I am going to be bold and say nobody wants to live that kind of live, and I am no exception. I love them.

So there you have it: the top 10 things you might not know about me. Oh, wait, one more thing. I am definitely not fast. I have been thinking about the reason why I am not fast. Is it because I am slightly overweight? Possibly. Is it because I fear the extreme pain it requires to run faster? Possibly. I think the main reason is because my legs lack the ability to propel my body over the ground at a higher rate of speed.
